Act II
of The Crucible shows not everyone is always honest. Abigail is using her
affair with Proctor to make him do whatever she pleases. This includes how
Elizabeth was first innocent then accused of conducting witchcraft. Townspeople
who have nothing to do with these trials are being prosecuted, and the only
evidence present is accusations of the victim. I don’t believe these
accusations are 100% reliable because anyone can claim something happened to
them, and claim any one person, or group of people, sometimes out of spite of
being witches. These trials could be completely based on false stories and the
judge nor jury knows the truth, they just go by what stories are brought in
court. In my opinion, the author has used an intelligent time period to present
the fact that only God knows. Meaning, only God knows who’s a witch, who really
believes in him and the ultimate truth of the stories circulating in court.
